Invitations are well received

“It depends on the nature of the event, but what has worked well for us is to send out actual invitations instead of simply broadcasting the event. This little touch always seems to make a big difference. The response is always good because we word the invitation ‘This is our gift to you’ and that seems to be the hook.”

Chocolate quotes were a big hit!

Quotable gift bags anyone? The women who organized the Woman’s Advent Quiet Day at St. Matthias Episcopal Church in Monument, Colorado gave every woman who attended a gift bag filled with chocolate. What was especially fun was that each bag was adorned with an oversized “gift tag” that featured a quote about chocolate. Plus every quote was different, so the women enjoying seeing what quote their table-mates had. At one point during my presentation I even asked a few women to share their quotes with the entire group. A collection of chocolate quotes might seem like a simple thing, but it definately provided opportunity for lots of laughter and bonding!

90 min presentation had something for everyone

Just spoke to an intimate gathering of about 30 women of St. Matthias Episcopal Church in Monument, Colorado. When organizer Donna Rosa asked me to speak for 90 minutes, I decided to mix things up a bit, incorporating a 30 minute humorous speech with a serious application, a brief break, some group discussions that generated suggestions that were practical, entertaining and poignant all at the same time, and then a serious close. 90 minutes can feel like a long time even if you’re doing something fun (imagine 3 back-to-back episodes of Gilligan’s Island!) but the mix felt right and the women were lively and engaged throughout. Of course, it helped that these were truely amazing women, warm and transparent. I enjoyed every minute in their presence!
